SUMMARY:Epidermis Circus: The Weirdest Puppet Show You've Ever Seen - Evergreen Cultural Centre
DESCRIPTION:SNAFU Theatre\nProduced by SNAFU for Age 14+\nPerformed by Fraggle Rock Puppeteer Ingrid Hansen\nCo-Created & Directed by Ride the Cyclone director Britt Small\nCostume by JIMBO the Drag Clown (Winner RuPaul’s Drag Race)A spicy puppet cabaret\, hosted by a sassy grandma who keeps trying to steal the show. This beautifully twisted variety show is performed by Ingrid Hansen\, who also puppeteers for Jim Henson Company’s Fraggle Rock. Watch behind-the-scenes as Hansen performs a live puppet film\, animating cheeky vignettes in the palm of her hand and projecting them onto a huge screen. “Both live and magnified on screen\, in cunningly angled cameras and mirrors\, we see Hansen create characters from her own hands\, fingers\, tongue\, in a saucy and jostling vaudeville of ‘stars.’ NUTTY\, INGENIOUS\, MESMERIZING.” – 12th Night. \nTiny stories emerge that celebrate the hilarious impossibility of being alive and having a body: these fragile bags of meat and bone\, carry us from place to place and allow us to laugh and snort and feel. SNAFU’s work has been compared to Wes Anderson and David Lynch\, yet “hilarious\, absurd and profoundly human\, (the Star Phoenix Newspaper.) \nEpidermis Circus was created with support from the Capital Regional District Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts. Early development of Epidermis Circus was also supported by the National Arts Centre’s #CanadaPerforms initiative\, and the OAC’s Theatre Creators Reserve as recommended by the Puppetmongers. \nThis show is performed with ASL. The Interpreter will be positioned stage centre/left (house left). \nABOUT THE ARTIST\nHot off a tour to the most prestigious puppet festival in Montreal\, Danish-Canadian puppeteer Ingrid Hansen tours her spicy puppetry cabaret after shooting 2 seasons of Fraggle Rock with the Jim Henson Company. She spent a year traipsing through Brooklyn’s parks puppeteering a big orange monster on Sesame’s new Emmy-Award-Winning series ‘Helpsters\,’ alongside human actors Andrea Martin\, John Oliver\, Terry Crews\, and Margaret Cho. At home in Victoria\, Canada\, Ingrid also co-creates puppet theatre with the “big kids” inside federal prisons. \nSINGLE TICKETS ON SALE:\nAdult $41 | Senior: $37 | Student: $16 \nBOX OFFICE: 604.927.6555 | Open Monday – Saturday\, 12 – 5PM\nSave big on our Variety and Music Series performances with a Sampler Pack Subscription!

SUMMARY:"Ruth Beer: Seep | Swell" Exhibition - Evergreen Cultural Centre Art Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Join the Art Gallery at Evergreen staff for a free\, drop-in tour of Ruth Beer: Seep | Swell.  This event is free to attend and wheelchair accessible. \nABOUT THE EXHIBITION \nThe Art Gallery at Evergreen in Coquitlam and the Burnaby Art Gallery co-present the exhibition Ruth Beer: Seep | Swell\, an exhibition in two parts. Taking place across the two galleries concurrently\, this exhibition contemplates Beer’s artistic research on the entwined relationships between humankind and our industries. \nFor decades\, Ruth Beer has used sculpture to explore the depictions\, constructs and myths of landscape.  Her dynamic practice revolves around an ecological examination of our rapidly transforming Pacific Northwest region. Beer’s early explorations of minimalist abstract and elemental forms have evolved into an interest in materials and their relationship to culture and society. In the artist’s hands\, raw natural materials are shaped through the cultural and sociopolitical forces that harvest them. Through an array of materially seductive artworks—glistening copper weavings\, tapestries\, bronze and ceramic stones\, woven photographs and prints on paper—Beer offers timely reflections on themes related to belonging\, human-land relationships and the pressing climate crisis. \n“Ruth Beer: Seep | Swell” is co-produced between the Art Gallery at Evergreen and the Burnaby Art Gallery\, curated by Katherine Dennis and Jennifer Cane.

Although she was trained classically on the guzheng\, she also had a love for North American mainstream music. She began her own Youtube channel and has now gained over 2\,000\,000 views. Her guzheng covers has been featured on various media including Guitar World\, GlobalTV\, CBC and Huffington Post. Michelle is also a guzheng teacher and is passionate about educating students the art of playing the Chinese harp. \nBlending the ethereal tones of the guzheng with elements of pop and rock\, Michelle crafts a unique sonic landscape that transcends cultural divides. Prepare to listen to her innovative arrangements that breathe new life into familiar melodies while introducing audiences to the enchanting sounds of this ancient instrument in unexpected contexts. \nBUSHIDO | Bushido- 節童 ”Children of Song”\, is the Vancouver/Sunshine Coast based duo of Japanese folk-inspired musicians who play wa-gakki\, Japanese traditional instruments. As their name implies\, their approach to music is in a child-like way\, deeply embodying the spirit of joy and experimentation in the process. Bushido’s music has a wide range of moods\, dynamics\, and characters. Sometimes very festive and uplifting like Japanese festivals. Other times very meditative and spiritual. Their expressions through Japanese traditional musical instruments will transport you to ancient Japan and to our modern world…and deep within. \nAlcvin Ryuzen Ramos is a master of the legendary shakuhachi bamboo zen flute flute of Japan) and a multi-instrumentalist\, and has dedicated his life to learning Japanese musical instruments. \nNori Akagi is a multi-instrumentalist and taiko drummer and percussionist who has been exploring a variety of percussion styles around the world for many years\, but has been embracing his Japanese identity deeper than ever. \nTICKETS:\nAdults & Seniors: $25 | Students: $16 \nBOX OFFICE: 604.927.6555 | Open Monday – Saturday\, 12 – 5PM
