This year\, we are excited to encourage visitors to try on traditional Hanfu attire and inviting attendees to wear their own cultural garments.\n– The event will feature multiple interactive zones where visitors can engage in craft making\, food preparation demonstrations (e.g.\, teaching attendees how to make\ntraditional noodles)\, and trying on and photographing themselves in traditional multicultural costumes. Additionally\, we will recognize and reward the most influential social media posts\, further boosting interaction and connection among attendees.\n– This year’s event\, like its predecessors\, will once again shine with hundreds of colorful paper lanterns\, big and small\, known as intangible world heritage from the historic city of Nanjing in China.\n– Noodles of various flavours will debut at the event such as Chinese Chow Mein\, Italian pasta\, Japanese Ramen and Korean cold noodles\, with a magical chef demonstrating astonishingly how to make Chinese ramen\, namely\, extra long noodles that people eat in anticipation of longevity.\n– A bombshell at this year’s event\, if any\, will be a wonderful show of well-known face change. As a result\, the City has adapted the July 1 event to provide a day that is sensitive to the diverse range of community perspectives. \nCanada Day in Coquitlam is a safe and inclusive family-friendly event with a wide range of entertainment\, multicultural performances\, fireworks\, food\, fun activities and opportunities to learn more about Canadian and pre-colonial Indigenous history. \nThe City is encouraging residents to reflect on the country’s complicated colonial history\, and consider our nation’s strengths as well as its flaws\, as we collectively learn from our past and do better in the future. \nWe acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-kwuh-tlum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City of Coquitlam is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) traditional and ancestral lands\, including those parts that were historically shared with the sq̓əc̓iy̓aɁɬ təməxʷ (Katzie)\, and other Coast Salish Peoples.
