SUMMARY:Maya Beaudry: Nesting - Evergreen Cultural Centre Art Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Maya Beaudry builds spaces that breathe. Through layered textiles\, stitched architectures\, and photographic\, sculptural surfaces\, she gives form to the emotional residues of place—homes lost\, cities transformed\, and bodies remembered. Her practice is rooted in the material language of cloth and the conceptual terrain of memory\, navigating the threshold between the built and the felt. \nDrawing on the visual language of gentrified cities and vanishing spaces\, her practice recalls what has been lost while imagining new forms of habitation—ones that honor slowness\, decay\, and renewal. In doing so\, she transforms textiles into mnemonic architectures and offers viewers a place to dwell.

SUMMARY:Old Threads\, New Stitches: Upcycling Exhibit Opening - Coquitlam Heritage Society
DESCRIPTION:We are happy to introduce our Senior in Residence for the winter season Mei Choi who will be presenting a month-long exhibit at Mackin House centered around both the technical aspects of upcycling clothing as well as the stories behind turning old pieces into something new. Featuring a selection of her creations\, this exhibit invites guests to come and interact with each item by trying things on and accessing the sewing patterns for each piece. \nMei Choi is a self-taught textile artist born in Hong Kong and currently residing in Coquitlam. Her art weaves the mediums of sewing\, upcycling\, altering\, thrifting\, and storytelling. Her practice is mainly centered on two principles: creativity and practicality; with her projects exploring the resourcefulness\, adaptability\, and appreciation of community-oriented life – while at the same time creating something tangible\, functional\, and useful. \nFree. No Registration Required. \nMei will also be holding open studio hours and a workshop at Mackin House throughout November.
