SUMMARY:Old Threads\, New Stitches: Upcycling Exhibit Opening - Coquitlam Heritage Society
DESCRIPTION:We are happy to introduce our Senior in Residence for the winter season Mei Choi who will be presenting a month-long exhibit at Mackin House centered around both the technical aspects of upcycling clothing as well as the stories behind turning old pieces into something new. Featuring a selection of her creations\, this exhibit invites guests to come and interact with each item by trying things on and accessing the sewing patterns for each piece. \nMei Choi is a self-taught textile artist born in Hong Kong and currently residing in Coquitlam. Her art weaves the mediums of sewing\, upcycling\, altering\, thrifting\, and storytelling. Her practice is mainly centered on two principles: creativity and practicality; with her projects exploring the resourcefulness\, adaptability\, and appreciation of community-oriented life – while at the same time creating something tangible\, functional\, and useful. \nFree. No Registration Required. \nMei will also be holding open studio hours and a workshop at Mackin House throughout November.

SUMMARY:Curator-led Exhibition Tour | Maya Beaudry: Nesting - Evergreen Cultural Centre Art Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Join the AGE curatorial team for a tour of Maya Beaudry: Nesting. Free to attend\, drop-ins welcome. This event is wheelchair accessible. \nAbout the Exhibition:\nMaya Beaudry builds spaces that breathe. Through layered textiles\, stitched architectures\, and photographic\, sculptural surfaces\, she gives form to the emotional residues of place—homes lost\, cities transformed\, and bodies remembered. Her practice is rooted in the material language of cloth and the conceptual terrain of memory\, navigating the threshold between the built and the felt. \nDrawing on the visual language of gentrified cities and vanishing spaces\, her practice recalls what has been lost while imagining new forms of habitation—ones that honour slowness\, decay\, and renewal. In doing so\, she transforms textiles into mnemonic architectures and offers viewers a place to dwell.

SUMMARY:Multitudes: Creative Writing Workshop - Evergreen Cultural Centre Art Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Join guest curator Anna Luth for an interactive creative writing workshop based on the group exhibition Multitudes. Take inspiration from the art in the gallery to create your own poetic response to the question\, “How can stories transform the present and project the future?” \nWe will begin with a tour through the exhibition Multitudes at Art Gallery at Evergreen\, which features artists who draw inspiration from fantasy\, the influence of technology and stories of the cosmos that shape our experiences of the present. \nAs a group we will consider: How do stories transform the present and project the future? How do we relate to ourselves and the world around us? Participants will be encouraged to use close-looking strategies to reflect and follow their curiosity in the gallery. After engaging in self-directed writing time\, participants will have the opportunity to share what they’ve written and observed. No writing experience required. \nFree to attend\, registration required.\nRegister at: https://evergreenculturalcentre.my.salesforce-sites.com/ticket/#/instances/a0FOK000002RmnN2AS

SUMMARY:"Ruth Beer: Seep | Swell" Tour - Evergreen Cultural Centre Art Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, January 25th for an artist-led tour and the publication launch of Ruth Beer: Seep| Swell\, an exhibition in two parts at the Art Gallery at Evergreen and Burnaby Art Gallery.  Beginning at 2pm\, tour the exhibition at Burnaby Art Gallery with artist Ruth Beer\, followed by an “Art Bus” shuttle service to the Art Gallery at Evergreen for the publication launch and refreshments. The tour will be approximately 30 minutes; catalogue launch will begin at approximately 2:30pm. \nThere are twenty spots available on the art bus shuttle. $5/seat. The gallery tours are wheelchair accessible\, however\, the complimentary shuttle service is not equipped with a wheelchair lift. \nABOUT THE EXHIBITION\nThe Art Gallery at Evergreen in Coquitlam and the Burnaby Art Gallery co-present the exhibition Ruth Beer: Seep | Swell\, an exhibition in two parts. Taking place across the two galleries concurrently\, this exhibition contemplates Beer’s artistic research on the entwined relationships between humankind and our industries. \nFor decades\, Beer has used sculpture to explore the depictions\, constructs and myths of landscape.  Her dynamic practice revolves around an ecological examination of our rapidly transforming Pacific Northwest region. Beer’s early explorations of minimalist abstract and elemental forms have evolved into an interest in materials and their relationship to culture and society. In the artist’s hands\, raw natural materials are shaped through the cultural and sociopolitical forces that harvest them. Through an array of materially seductive artworks—glistening copper weavings\, tapestries\, bronze and ceramic stones\, woven photographs and prints on paper—Beer offers timely reflections on themes related to belonging\, human-land relationships and the pressing climate crisis. \n“Ruth Beer: Seep | Swell”  is co-produced between the Art Gallery at Evergreen and the Burnaby Art Gallery\, curated by Katherine Dennis and Jennifer Cane.

SUMMARY:"Ruth Beer: Seep | Swell" Exhibition - Evergreen Cultural Centre Art Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Join the Art Gallery at Evergreen staff for a free\, drop-in tour of Ruth Beer: Seep | Swell.  This event is free to attend and wheelchair accessible. \nABOUT THE EXHIBITION \nThe Art Gallery at Evergreen in Coquitlam and the Burnaby Art Gallery co-present the exhibition Ruth Beer: Seep | Swell\, an exhibition in two parts. Taking place across the two galleries concurrently\, this exhibition contemplates Beer’s artistic research on the entwined relationships between humankind and our industries. \nFor decades\, Ruth Beer has used sculpture to explore the depictions\, constructs and myths of landscape.
