He has toured internationally aboard both the Viking and Color Cruise Lines in addition to performances in Taiwan\, Hong Kong\, Bangkok and Dubai. Is it a fearless\, freewheeling band sometimes referred to as the “Los Lobos of Canada\,” veterans of an estimated 4\,300 shows since the band’s 1992 formation? \nWhat if I told you that this band doesn’t just exist—they flourish\, and have been converting full concert halls of indifferent strangers into devoted fans for the last 30 years? The name of this musical collective is The Paperboys. They are a Canadian treasure. The heart of The Paperboys is a trio of gifted songwriters and musicians: Founder Tom Landa\, a fedora-hatted vocalist/guitarist/bandleader who immigrated from Mexico to Canada in his teens; Kalissa Landa\, a lifelong fiddler/vocalist with a preternatural command of melody; and Spirit of the West’s flautist/guitarist/vocalist Geoffrey Kelly\, already a Canadian musical icon when he hopped on the P’boys bus in 1997. Though by no means a jam band\, The Paperboys reinvent their show every time they step onstage. Once the band agrees on the opening song\, there is no set list. The song finishes\, the crowd reacts\, Landa reads the room\, and the journey begins. Every night. The world has changed seismically since 1992\, but The Paperboys fan base has stuck with the band\, and grown. It goes beyond perseverance\,” Landa says about the band’s legacy\, “and into some kind of connectivity and resonance we have with people. We’ve created a community.” Though best known for their live show\, The Paperboys also have another ace up their sleeve: A deep and impressive discography. The band has released 10 recordings—including the Juno Award-winning Molinos—receiving accolades from MOJO Magazine and fRoots Magazine along the way. They’ve been two-time recipients of the West Coast Music Award\, composed scores for two films\, and been nominated for a Leo Award for best original song in the Hong Kong / Canada film release\, Lunch With Charles. Although perennially adored and praised by alternative media and national radio networks NPR and CBC\, commercial success has eluded the band. Undaunted\, The Paperboys have kept in perpetual motion\, building a cult following through the impact of its incendiary live show and proud DIY spirit. \nEven the pandemic couldn’t silence The Paperboys. Tom and Kalissa maintained a warm connection with their homebound fans by posting their now-legendary Slipper Sessions online\, playing gorgeous\, stripped-down versions of their repertoire\, with their kids and cats sometimes wandering through the margins of the videos. \n“There are many ways to define success\,” Landa says. “I get to make music with people I love\, tour and see the world\, and connect with people through song. DESCRIPTION:Cocktail Hour 6:30PM | Concert 7:30PM \nJim Byrnes was born in St. Louis\, Missouri – that’s blues country. He grew up on the city’s north side. One of the neighbourhood bars had Ike and Tina Turner as the house band. As a teenager going to music clubs\, he and his buddy were often the only white people in the place. “We never had any problems. We were too naïve and had too much respect for the music and culture – they knew it\, they could tell.” \nBy age thirteen\, Jim was singing and playing blues guitar. His first professional gig was in 1964. Over the years\, he has had the great good fortune to appear with a virtual who’s who of the blues. From Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker to Taj Mahal and Robert Cray\, Jim has been on the blues highway for 45 years. Byrnes moved to Vancouver\, BC in the mid-70s after years of drifting\, working odd jobs and playing music. In 1981 he put together a band that became a staple of the local music scene. In 1986 the Jim Byrnes Band played 300 nights. \nJim Byrnes’ fame as an actor has grown immeasurably from his too-numerous-to-mention TV and movie roles\, highlights including television’s Wiseguy and Highlander series\, and his national variety show The Jim Byrnes Show. Jim has proven that a serious car accident in 1972 has done anything but hinder him. The evening begins with a solo set from Melanie\, and continues to build into the evening as she welcomes in musicians in to form a trio\, and finally\, the full Barnstormer Band. \nABOUT THE ARTISTS | MELANIE DEKKER \nMelanie Dekker is a staple of the West Coast music scene! A Canadian roots-pop song-writer from Vancouver\, BC\, her voice like chocolate\, and her world-class strumming and authentic approach has earned her radio hits and 100’s of tour dates. Dekker focuses on the connection – between people & the emotions that guide us. She tugs on your heart and leaves you smiling by intertwining fresh vivaciously expressed stories with a powerful variety of memorable songs. Her Dutch\, down-to-earth approach has a sentimental yet sassy style. This is apparent not only in her music\, but also in her popular Youtube videos which include her plunge at the Polar Bear Swim\, the 2010 Olympics\, her own wisdom tooth removal\, Christmas concerts in AFG\, & a romantic run-in with a mannequin. \nABOUT THE ARTISTS | BARNSTORMER BAND \nA 5 piece roaring 20’s band with instrumentation rarely heard together. The Barnstormer experience includes banjo\, kazoo\, ukulele\, guitars\, upright bass\, a traditional trap drum kit\, clarinet and belt-it-out vocals. You will witness playful interplay between famous 1920’s characters (like Einstein & Al Capone)\, and their corresponding 1st class musicians. Melanie Dekker is the energetic band leader and a recording artist from Vancouver\, BC. Combined with these world class musicians the band has over 250 years of live concert experience. Embrace the 1920s prohibition and dance craze era with a vivacious band who combines studious easy going musicianship\, costumes\, and multi-instrumental talents. (Where possible they have a multi-media backdrop too.) Walk right in\, get your wiggle on. There’s nothing like the feel good jazzy roots styling that this one of kind band has to offer.

They were born in London\, England to parents of Nigerian and Zimbabwean descent\, and raised in the picturesque seaside town of Weymouth\, Dorset. At the age of 13 Tonye moved to Canada\, first to Prince Albert\, SK\, then on to the city of Dawson Creek\, BC. Upon graduation Tonye attended the University of Victoria’s Phoenix Theatre Program. \nTonye’s style\, like their gender\, is fluid (or at the very least non-binary) – but can be described as Soul/Neo-Folk/R&B​\, and although unique – they have been likened to folx like Lauryn Hill\, Ani DiFranco ​and​ Chaka Khan​. Tonye is a Much More Music​ Video Award recipient\, a steadfast fixture in their arts community – and the kind of singer/performer that turns heads wherever they go. \nIn early 2015 Tonye’s trajectory was interrupted by a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis​\, but the full stop came two years later\, when a car accident on an icy back road in the Peace Region left their spine fractured in six places. All plans were waylaid as they lay bedridden and isolated for months. In the fall of 2017\, Tonye parted ways with 604 Records & Paquin Artists and set out on a journey of self-discovery and healing. \nIn many ways\, Tonye has had to start over\, and they bear the scars to show it. They now refer to MS as the best thing that ever happened to them. A wake up call offering a new lease on life and more importantly\, a shift in perspective. Their purpose and vision are crystalline. To connect with audiences on a deeper level through intentional work\, and to use their presence to foster meaningful dialogue within communities. They are not only interested in taking music and art to traditional venues but also into schools\, community centres\, hospitals\, prisons\, and boardrooms. Places where art can heal\, start conversation\, and maybe even…. make change.
