SUMMARY:Annual Salmon Come Home Event - Hoy Creek Hatchery
DESCRIPTION:The name Coquitlam comes from the Coast Salish word “kwikwetlem\,” which means “red fish up the river.” This is the time of year when salmon return to spawn in our local rivers – and one location to view this natural wonder is along the Hoy Creek trail\, walking toward Hoy Creek Hatchery. \nMost years\, the City along with the Hoy-Scott Watershed Society celebrate the return of salmon to local creeks in the fall to watch the salmon battle their way back to their spawning grounds. Coquitlam has several salmon-viewing spots\, with one of the best being Hoy Creek Linear Park. \nJoin us at the Hoy Creek Hatchery for Coquitlam’s beloved Salmon Come Home event\, a family-friendly celebration of the annual salmon return! \nEnjoy an exciting day outdoors with interactive exhibits\, hands-on learning experiences\, and the chance to see salmon up close. Activities include wood crafts\, live entertainment\, Indigenous storytelling\, and the inflatable Nylon Zoo adventure for kids. Don’t miss this fun\, educational event for all ages—there’s something for everyone! \nSalmon Viewing Map and Nature Scavenger Hunt\nKeep your eyes open all fall and visit other local creeks as well using our map of salmon-viewing locations. You can also enjoy a family-friendly scavenger hunt – seeking items such as a spider web or pinecone – as you are out-and-about in nature. Enjoy! \nPlease remember that during this time of the year\, bears are foraging and filling up before they den for the winter and spawning salmon is one of their primary food sources. Respect nature and stay on the trails\, be alert\, listen and watch for bears. \nThe much-loved Salmon Come Home is a free event celebrating salmon returning to the creek\, featuring live salmon demonstrations and other activities.

SUMMARY:"Seedling (Cedar)" Tours every Saturday at 1PM - Evergreen Cultural Centre
DESCRIPTION:Join the Art Gallery at Evergreen Cultural Centre for a FREE tour\, every Saturday\, of Hyung-min Yoon’s “Seedling (cedar)” (2021) augmented reality project at Lafarge Lake. Each tour will be 30 minutes long\, starting outside the doors of the Art Gallery at Evergreen\, moving to the viewing platforms and ending with a look at the outdoor artworks installed on the windows of the Evergreen Cultural Centre. \n“Seedling (cedar)” (2021)\, by artist Hyung-min Yoon\, is a location-based augmented reality (AR) sculpture situated on Lafarge Lake\, adjacent to the Evergreen Cultural Centre. The sculpture takes the form of a reconstructed and enlarged micro-CT scan of a germinating western red cedar\, which is accessed through smart devices\, allowing audiences to experience this site-specific artwork during their park walk. Seedling (cedar) is a new work in the artist’s ongoing series of sculptural installations that are positioned on bodies of water. Each work addresses the artist’s interest in the history of language.

SUMMARY:Rick Herdman: Into the Woods: BC Nature in Woodcut
DESCRIPTION:Free. Registration required to view exhibit in person.\n\n\nPlease note: We welcome individual and core bubble visits to our exhibition spaces by appointment. Please call 604-664-1636 ext. 0 to book.\nPrintmaking is the art of replication. A seed and a woodcut plate live in parallel; they are both the DNA for replication. From this DNA\, variations occur: leaves on a tree vary depending upon their exposure to light\, water\, or other environmental effects; and the prints of a series are affected by the amount of ink\, pressure and even the temperature of the day. I create my plates with a mind to encourage the chance of minor variations. For me\, these variations make each print more alive and unique. This series of woodcuts is inspired by the acts and beauty of nature. \nwww.rickherdman.com \nFacebook: Rick Herdman Artist \nInstagram: @rickherdman
