DESCRIPTION:Attendees can look forward to a day filled with fun activities\, entertainment\, and opportunities to connect with organizations promoting their initiatives. \nThe Community “Picnic in the Park” aims to foster a sense of unity\, celebrate the achievements of Black Youth\, and provide a platform for organizations to showcase their work and engage with the community. JrBAA is happy to partner with several community organizations and businesses to showcase their work and highlight their initiatives. \nThroughout the event\, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a wide array of activities suitable for all age groups. The entertainment area will feature live performances from different musicians\, poets\, hip-hop artists\, dancers\, spoken word artists\, and entertainers! Moreover\, the event will create a space to commemorate Nelson Mandela’s birthday. \nIn addition to the stage presentations\, there will be a games tent for adults\, offering both traditional card games and life-sized lawn games. Kids’ activities will include potato sack races\, three-legged races\, wheelbarrow races\, face painting\, balloon artistry\, and a dedicated craft tent. \nJrBAA extends an open invitation to individuals\, groups\, and organizations aligned with the mission of supporting and empowering Black youth. Attendees are encouraged to bring their picnic baskets to enjoy a day of networking and camaraderie with friends and family.

DESCRIPTION:SNAFU Theatre\nProduced by SNAFU for Age 14+\nPerformed by Fraggle Rock Puppeteer Ingrid Hansen\nCo-Created & Directed by Ride the Cyclone director Britt Small\nCostume by JIMBO the Drag Clown (Winner RuPaul’s Drag Race)A spicy puppet cabaret\, hosted by a sassy grandma who keeps trying to steal the show. This beautifully twisted variety show is performed by Ingrid Hansen\, who also puppeteers for Jim Henson Company’s Fraggle Rock. Watch behind-the-scenes as Hansen performs a live puppet film\, animating cheeky vignettes in the palm of her hand and projecting them onto a huge screen. “Both live and magnified on screen\, in cunningly angled cameras and mirrors\, we see Hansen create characters from her own hands\, fingers\, tongue\, in a saucy and jostling vaudeville of ‘stars.’ NUTTY\, INGENIOUS\, MESMERIZING.” – 12th Night. \nTiny stories emerge that celebrate the hilarious impossibility of being alive and having a body: these fragile bags of meat and bone\, carry us from place to place and allow us to laugh and snort and feel. SNAFU’s work has been compared to Wes Anderson and David Lynch\, yet “hilarious\, absurd and profoundly human\, (the Star Phoenix Newspaper.) \nEpidermis Circus was created with support from the Capital Regional District Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts. Early development of Epidermis Circus was also supported by the National Arts Centre’s #CanadaPerforms initiative\, and the OAC’s Theatre Creators Reserve as recommended by the Puppetmongers. \nThis show is performed with ASL.
