SUMMARY:"Ruth Beer: Seep | Swell" Tour & Opening Reception - Evergreen Cultural Centre Art Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Artist tour begins at Art Gallery at Evergreen at 2PM\nShuttle transportation to Burnaby Art Gallery from 3 – 3:30PM\nOpening remarks and reception from 3:30 – 5PM \nJoin us on Saturday\, November 30th for an artist-led tour and the opening reception of Ruth Beer: Seep | Swell\, an exhibition in two parts at the Art Gallery at Evergreen and Burnaby Art Gallery.  A tour with artist Ruth Beer will begin at 2:00 p.m.\, followed by complimentary shuttle service to Burnaby Art Gallery for the opening reception of the exhibition. Light refreshments will be offered. \nThere are twenty spots available on the shuttle\, available on a first come\, first served basis. The gallery tours are wheelchair accessible\, however\, the complimentary shuttle service is not equipped with a wheelchair lift. \nABOUT THE EXHIBITION:\nThe Art Gallery at Evergreen in Coquitlam and the Burnaby Art Gallery co-present the exhibition Ruth Beer: Seep | Swell\, an exhibition in two parts. Taking place across the two galleries concurrently\, this exhibition contemplates Beer’s artistic research on the entwined relationships between humankind and our industries. \nFor decades\, Beer has used sculpture to explore the depictions\, constructs and myths of landscape.  Her dynamic practice revolves around an ecological examination of our rapidly transforming Pacific Northwest region. Beer’s early explorations of minimalist abstract and elemental forms have evolved into an interest in materials and their relationship to culture and society. In the artist’s hands\, raw natural materials are shaped through the cultural and sociopolitical forces that harvest them. Through an array of materially seductive artworks—glistening copper weavings\, tapestries\, bronze and ceramic stones\, woven photographs and prints on paper—Beer offers timely reflections on themes related to belonging\, human-land relationships and the pressing climate crisis. \nRuth Beer: Seep | Swell  is co-produced between the Art Gallery at Evergreen and the Burnaby Art Gallery\, curated by Katherine Dennis and Jennifer Cane.

SUMMARY:World After Dark - Evergreen Cultural Centre
DESCRIPTION:A new\, Dora Mavor Moore Award nominated production by Shannon Litzenberger Contemporary Dance\, World After Dark explores the erosion of our relationship to night\, inspired by Christopher Dewdney’s popular book Acquainted with the Night: Excursions through the world after dark. From the three stages of nightfall to the science of the cosmos; from the birth of nightlife to the empire of dreams; from the biology of nocturnal creatures to the mythology of the night sky\, World After Dark takes us on an epic voyage through the mysteries of night\, inviting us to reclaim the night – a metaphor for the sensual\, the embodied\, and the feminine. \nThe creation of World After Dark has been generously supported by the Toronto Arts Council\, the Ontario Arts Council\, the Canada Council for the Arts\, Soulpepper’s Resident Artist Program\, Toronto Dance Theatre’s Creation Residency Program\, Harbourfront Centre’s Performing Arts Residency Program\, The National Ballet of Canada’s CreativAction Open Studio Programme\, the residency program of Peggy Baker Dance Projects & Canada’s National Ballet School and the Work in Progress (W.I.P) program of Free Flow Dance Theatre Company. \nTouring has been made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Power Corporation of Canada\, the Kingfisher Foundation and the Ontario Arts Council. \nABOUT THE ARTISTS:\nShannon Litzenberger (she/her) is an award-winning dance artist\, embodiment facilitator and experienced cultural leader working at the intersection of art\, ideas and transformational change. SUMMARY:ROOF - Evergreen Cultural Centre
DESCRIPTION:ROOF by Lucas Myers\n7:30PM + 3PM Saturday \n  \nIn ROOF\, a humorous yet socially conscious one-person show\, Lucas Myers weaves together elements of stand-up comedy\, physical theatre\, and his trademark brand of observational humour to tell the story of Dave and Stevie. Dave is a highly successful real estate agent who is living the dream: hot car\, great kids\, beautiful wife\, gorgeous sound system\, designer kitchen. Just as he is about to launch his own self-improvement video series\, #HiMyNameIsDave\, he discovers major issues with his roof and cracks begin to form in his perfect world. Enter Stevie\, a journeyman roofer with aspirations of being a stand-up comic\, and the only person capable of dealing with Dave’s narcissistic hyper vigilance. As they attempt to collaborate on the roof project\, Stevie forces Dave to confront his shortcomings and come to terms with what being a “good person” really means. As their initial views of each other are challenged\, ROOF examines our preconceptions around mental health\, addiction\, and homelessness as the characters are forced to confront their own assumptions. \nSINGLE TICKETS ON SALE:\nAdults: $47 | Seniors: $40 | Students: $16\nSave 20% with a Theatre Series subscription! \nBOX OFFICE: 604.927.6555 | Open Monday – Saturday\, 12 – 5PM

SUMMARY:Annual Salmon Come Home Event - Hoy Creek Hatchery
DESCRIPTION:The name Coquitlam comes from the Coast Salish word “kwikwetlem\,” which means “red fish up the river.” This is the time of year when salmon return to spawn in our local rivers – and one location to view this natural wonder is along the Hoy Creek trail\, walking toward Hoy Creek Hatchery. \nMost years\, the City along with the Hoy-Scott Watershed Society celebrate the return of salmon to local creeks in the fall to watch the salmon battle their way back to their spawning grounds. Coquitlam has several salmon-viewing spots\, with one of the best being Hoy Creek Linear Park. \nJoin us at the Hoy Creek Hatchery for Coquitlam’s beloved Salmon Come Home event\, a family-friendly celebration of the annual salmon return! \nEnjoy an exciting day outdoors with interactive exhibits\, hands-on learning experiences\, and the chance to see salmon up close. Activities include wood crafts\, live entertainment\, Indigenous storytelling\, and the inflatable Nylon Zoo adventure for kids. Don’t miss this fun\, educational event for all ages—there’s something for everyone! \nSalmon Viewing Map and Nature Scavenger Hunt\nKeep your eyes open all fall and visit other local creeks as well using our map of salmon-viewing locations. You can also enjoy a family-friendly scavenger hunt – seeking items such as a spider web or pinecone – as you are out-and-about in nature. Enjoy! \nPlease remember that during this time of the year\, bears are foraging and filling up before they den for the winter and spawning salmon is one of their primary food sources. Respect nature and stay on the trails\, be alert\, listen and watch for bears. \nThe much-loved Salmon Come Home is a free event celebrating salmon returning to the creek\, featuring live salmon demonstrations and other activities.
