SUMMARY:Còig
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE SHOW\nWhen the creative juices are flowing\, there’s no holding back the talented quartet that makes up the Celtic supergroup Còig. Hot on the heels of the group’s award-winning 2017 album Rove comes the brand-new release\, ASHLAR. Brimming with new ideas\, and lots of energy built up from their hundreds of international performances\, the band figured\, “Why wait?” They packed themselves into producer Dave Gunning’s Wee House Of Music studio in Nova Scotia during a brief break in touring\, and everything fell into place perfectly.\nAs a matter of fact\, that’s what ASHLAR means\, a perfect fit. Fiddler Chrissy Crowley explains: “There wasn’t a particular theme to the music\, it just happened naturally\, everything just flowed out of us. We noticed how quickly everything came together\, so I was looking for a word that summed that up. Ashlar is a type of masonry where you’re refining and refining\, and you wind up with these pristine\, square blocks. The idea is that these blocks should be so uniform that they fit together perfectly. Like this album\, where every track fit together perfectly.”\nASHLAR flows from lively sets to tender traditional ballads to fabulous covers\, everything Còig is known for\, but there’s a difference this time too. The album features the most tune-writing\, and more vocal tracks of any of their releases. That reflects all the ideas they keep storing up\, and the growing confidence they feel in their own writing and singing.\n___________________________________________________________________ \nSINGLE TICKET PRICING:\nAdults: $35 | Seniors: $32 | Students: $15\n___________________________________________________________________ \nSINGLE TICKETS ON SALE NOW\nOur studio theatre is officially back to full capacity in 2022! SUMMARY:Percussiano 3
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE SHOW\nPercussiano3 is a veritable pageant for the eye and the ear bringing together a myriad of percussion instruments with one piano. The two hands of percussionist Rod Thomas Squance and the four hands of Elizabeth and Marcel Bergmann – aka the Bergmann Piano Duo – join together to perform a six-handed musical marvel.\nWith their dazzling array of instruments and brilliant display of virtuosity\, Percussiano3 deliver all of the excitement of a percussion ensemble without losing the classical touch of a traditional concert\, presenting great masterpieces and unique transcriptions for percussion and piano. Their repertoire spans across musical styles and periods and includes works by composers like Bach\, Schubert\, Ravel\, Chabrier\, Copland\, Rachmaninoff\, Piazzolla\, Brubeck\, Saint Saëns as well as their own original compositions.\nIt all began at the Banff Centre for the Arts some 20 years ago\, where the musicians first met and performed together over several weeks. Their connection both personally and musically was instant and from that time they have collaborated on a huge variety of musical projects covering a range of repertoire from standard classical to contemporary chamber music\, and from jazz to a children’s opera production. They have recorded for the CBC and for several years performed extensively as members of the award winning Calgary based Land’s End Chamber Ensemble. Their enthusiasm is infectious as audiences experience the dynamic energy and communication of the three friends performing together. The trio enjoys connecting with audiences through their lively performances and engaging explanations\, and love taking the time to speak with enthusiastic audience members on stage after concerts. \nABOUT ROD THOMAS SQUANCE\nA stunning soloist\, percussionist Rod captivates audiences with his perfect blend of compelling musicianship\, sparkling technique\, and exotic sound. He has performed with Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Project\, Paquito de Rivera\, Dong-Won Kim\, Kojiro Umezaki\, Yu Hongmei and Prafulla Athalye. Rod has appeared on national radio and television\, solo recitals and with many orchestras. Classically trained\, Rod also plays jazz vibraphone\, Balinese shadow-puppet music and Indian classical music. He currently teaches at the University of Calgary. \nABOUT THE BERGMANN PIANO DUO\nThe prize winning Bergmann Piano Duo’s dynamic and energetic performances of uniquely eclectic programmes have inspired audiences nationally and internationally. They have performed in concert and with orchestras in the United States\, Italy\, Germany\, The Netherlands\, Spain\, Portugal\, France\, Macedonia\, Greece\, China and Canada. The duo has recorded extensively and their repertoire ranges from the Baroque to the contemporary\, including a myriad of Marcel’s own arrangements and compositions. The duo also enjoy their roles as Artistic Directors of White Rock Concerts and curate a very popular series of coffee concerts throughout the Greater Vancouver area and on Vancouver Island.\n___________________________________________________________________ \nSINGLE TICKET PRICING:\nAdults: $35 | Seniors: $32 | Students: $15\n___________________________________________________________________ \nSINGLE TICKETS ON SALE NOW\nOur studio theatre is officially back to full capacity in 2022! SUMMARY:Fraser Mills: Foundation of a Community - Mackin House
DESCRIPTION:The Ross McLaren Company began sawmill operations on the Fraser River in 1890\, beginning a company that was destined for economic ups and downs\, several name changes and numerous expansions. Commonly called Fraser Mills\, it was also the Canadian Western Lumber Company\, and until it closed\, the Crown Zellerbach Company. The mill employed labour from all over the world\, giving a start to many Sikh and Chinese families who contributed to the settling of Coquitlam\, and at one point employed large numbers of French Canadians who settled Maillardville. The mill brought in a multicultural population and also supplied the raw materials for many of the city’s buildings. It is an intrinsic part of Coquitlam’s foundation.

SUMMARY:The Young Beethoven
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE SHOW\nDelayed eighteen months by the pandemic\, Young Beethoven commemorates the 250th anniversary of the composers’ birth in 1770. Featuring an ensemble of outstanding West Coast chamber players\, the programme presents works that Beethoven composed before the age of thirty. It concludes with his semi orchestral Septet\, a work which was so immensely popular when first written that Beethoven was overheard declaring “I wish somebody would burn that piece! Nobody is listening to anything else I have ever written!” \nDesigned and narrated by Impresario and raconteur George Zukerman\, the Young Beethoven grows exponentially from a Duet – written before Beethoven assigned opus numbers – to the Septet which is his Opus 20. The work is considered a link between the world of the string quartet and the symphony. Just two months after completing the septet\, Beethoven issued his First Symphony which is his Opus 21.\n___________________________________________________________________\nSINGLE TICKET PRICING: \nAdults: $35 | Seniors: $32 | Students: $15 \n___________________________________________________________________ \nSINGLE TICKETS ON SALE NOW\nOur studio theatre is officially back to full capacity in 2022! SUMMARY:Josephine
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE SHOW\nJOSEPHINE\, a burlesque cabaret dream play combines cabaret\, theatre and dance to tell the story of the iconic Josephine Baker\, the first African-American international superstar and one of the most remarkable figures of the 20th century. The show is intended for adult audiences\, as it contains adult content and nudity. Josephine shatters stereotypes of race\, gender roles and sexuality in this intimate\, charming and haunting cabaret with a twist. \nBorn in St. Louis in 1906\, Josephine Baker achieved only moderate success in the United States\, but became an international superstar after moving to France in the early ’20s. She starred alongside white romantic leading men in films in the ’30s\, had multiple interracial marriages and homosexual relationships\, and performed in men’s clothing before the term “drag” existed in the lexicon. Her adopted country of France gave her the opportunity to live freely without the racial oppression of her home nation\, though she never stopped yearning for acceptance in America. \nAfter debuting at the 2016 San Diego Fringe Festival and winning the distinctions of “Outstanding Solo Performance”and “Best Show”\, Josephine played three sold out runs to rave reviews in hometown Orlando Florida before starting a 2017 North American tour. The first stop was the second largest Fringe Festival in North America\, the Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival\, where it was touted as the “breakout hit” of the Festival\, selling out the entire run and receiving 5-star reviews from both major publications. The show then went to Indianapolis Fringe where it won “Best National Production”\, “Outstanding Female Performance”\, “Audience Choice” and “Festival Top Seller”. From there\, the show was selected by The Soho Playhouse in New York City to be part of the 2017 Fringe Encore series in October\, 2017. Josephine was then awarded the honour of the encore series “Outstanding Production” award\, and in early 2018 was offered a limited 5-week off-Broadway run at Soho Playhouse\, where it sold out shows and received high critical acclaim. \nSINGLE TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW\nAdults: $40 | Seniors: $35 | Students: $15 \nEVERGREEN BOX OFFICE: 604-927-6555\nOpen Monday – Friday | 12 – 5pm\n___________________________________________________________________ \nCOVID-19 SAFETY AT EVERGREEN:\nProof of Vaccination is required for all patrons visiting Evergreen. SUMMARY:The Fretless
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE SHOW \nThe Fretless is the Canadian ensemble playing an essential part in the emerging movement mainstreaming traditional music\, and connecting traditional styles with diverse audiences around the world. Through its deconstruction and transformation of the usual rhythmic\, harmonic and structured arrangements of fiddle styles around the world\, The Fretless is pushing traditional music to a new place\, and has now issued itself an atypical challenge in the mission to find and convert fans unfamiliar with “progressive” traditional music. \nStarting with their debut album in 2012\, the band has steadily pushed further into the public eye\, winning Instrumental Album of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards and Instrumental Group of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. Its 2014 tune “Waving To Ryan” has topped a million Spotify plays\, and in 2016\, The Fretless took home a JunoTM award for Instrumental Album of The Year for their album Bird’s Nest. 2018 saw the release of the band’s newest record\, “Live from the Art Farm”\, in which the band recorded ten all-new intricate arrangements in front of three microphones and an audience\, straight to tape. The Fretless are just as likely to perform at a concert hall (most recently\, halls such as the Royal Glasgow Concert hall in Scotland\, The Colon Philharmonie in Germany\, or the National Arts Centre in Ottawa) as a folk festival (such as Vancouver Island Folk Fest\, Winnipeg Folk Fest\, Memoirs et Racines). \nThey can be found playing a pub one day and a chamber music festival the next; collaborating with a world-class vocalist (The Wailin’ Jenny’s\, William Prince\, Lennie Gallant) the weekend before a bluegrass festival. The band is taking their innovative and vibrant version of a string quartet to countless corners of the musical world\, bringing audiences on a journey that transcends genre\, defies stereotypes\, and can only be described as\nThe Fretless. \n___________________________________________________________________\nSINGLE TICKET PRICING: \nAdults: $35 | Seniors: $32 | Students: $15
