This workshop will go over introductory stiches and techniques\, how to knit a basic rectangle\, and how to build upon these steps to create different items. \nAll materials provided\, participants will be able to create a knitted trinket bag to take home. \nKnitting is a craft with deep roots that is often passed on through generations. It represents a link to the heritage of handcrafting and the sharing of skills within the community. Many activities now considered a hobby started as a necessity of everyday life. Get introduced to a new hobby at our workshop and check out our display of the history and heritage of different hobbies around Coquitlam.

SUMMARY:The JrBAA Annual Community Picnic in the Park
DESCRIPTION:Attendees can look forward to a day filled with fun activities\, entertainment\, and opportunities to connect with organizations promoting their initiatives. \nThe Community “Picnic in the Park” aims to foster a sense of unity\, celebrate the achievements of Black Youth\, and provide a platform for organizations to showcase their work and engage with the community. JrBAA is happy to partner with several community organizations and businesses to showcase their work and highlight their initiatives. \nThroughout the event\, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a wide array of activities suitable for all age groups. The entertainment area will feature live performances from different musicians\, poets\, hip-hop artists\, dancers\, spoken word artists\, and entertainers! Moreover\, the event will create a space to commemorate Nelson Mandela’s birthday. \nIn addition to the stage presentations\, there will be a games tent for adults\, offering both traditional card games and life-sized lawn games. Kids’ activities will include potato sack races\, three-legged races\, wheelbarrow races\, face painting\, balloon artistry\, and a dedicated craft tent. \nJrBAA extends an open invitation to individuals\, groups\, and organizations aligned with the mission of supporting and empowering Black youth. Attendees are encouraged to bring their picnic baskets to enjoy a day of networking and camaraderie with friends and family.

Through layered textiles\, stitched architectures\, and photographic\, sculptural surfaces\, she gives form to the emotional residues of place—homes lost\, cities transformed\, and bodies remembered. Her practice is rooted in the material language of cloth and the conceptual terrain of memory\, navigating the threshold between the built and the felt. \nDrawing on the visual language of gentrified cities and vanishing spaces\, her practice recalls what has been lost while imagining new forms of habitation—ones that honor slowness\, decay\, and renewal. In doing so\, she transforms textiles into mnemonic architectures and offers viewers a place to dwell.
