SUMMARY:Breaking Bread: An Exhibit About the History of Bread - Mackin House Museum
DESCRIPTION:Bread – it’s simple\, delicious\, versatile\, and ubiquitous. It has a place in almost every cuisine around the world and comes in a seemingly infinite number of formats (think pastries\, gluten-free breads\, wraps\, even beer). Yet we rarely stop to think about how and why bread has a universal home. Visit Breaking Bread to dive into these ideas and look at the cultures\, people\, paths\, and ideas that have been a part of bread’s global rise. Exploring religions\, historical events\, and unique stories\, we help shine light onto how some of our favourite foods found their way into our kitchens and hearts. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Bones of Crows - Evergreen Cultural Centre
DESCRIPTION:BONES OF CROWS\, from Vancouver-born Dene/Métis writer-director Marie Clements\, is told through the eyes of Cree Matriarch Aline Spears as she survives a childhood in Canada’s residential school system to continue her family’s generational fight in the face of systemic starvation\, racism\, and sexual abuse. She uses her uncanny ability to understand and translate codes into working for a special division of the Canadian Air Force as a Cree code talker in World War II. \nThe story unfolds over 100 years with a cumulative force that propels us into the future. BONES OF CROWS was written\, directed and produced by Marie Clements and produced with Trish Dolman\, Christine Haebler and Sam Grana. \nAline Spears (played at different ages by Grace Dove\, Summer Testawich\, and Carla Rae) is a happy\, gifted child\, until she and her siblings are removed to a residential school. The scars of that experience will run deep through the remainder of their days\, though it will not be the only time that official government policy will act as an instrument of abuse and trauma. Despite this\, Aline enlists in WWII\, where\, ironically\, her fluency in Cree becomes a national asset. The reward for her service is yet more anguish and struggle. \nThis program contains scenes that may distress some viewers\, especially those who have experienced harm\, abuse\, violence\, and/or intergenerational trauma due to colonial practices. \nSupport is available 24 hours a day for anyone affected by their experience at residential schools and for those who may be triggered by content dealing with residential schools\, child abuse\, emotional trauma\, and racism. The national Indian Residential Schools Crisis Line is available at 1-866-925-4419. \nFREE with Registration
