SUMMARY:Breaking Bread: An Exhibit About the History of Bread - Mackin House Museum
DESCRIPTION:Bread – it’s simple\, delicious\, versatile\, and ubiquitous. It has a place in almost every cuisine around the world and comes in a seemingly infinite number of formats (think pastries\, gluten-free breads\, wraps\, even beer). Yet we rarely stop to think about how and why bread has a universal home. Visit Breaking Bread to dive into these ideas and look at the cultures\, people\, paths\, and ideas that have been a part of bread’s global rise. Exploring religions\, historical events\, and unique stories\, we help shine light onto how some of our favourite foods found their way into our kitchens and hearts. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Transmissions Exhibition Tour - Art Gallery at Evergreen Cultural Centre
DESCRIPTION:Experience Transmissions at the Art Gallery at Evergreen. Visit the AGE for a free tour with AGE’s curatorial team. \nWithin the spun fibres of yarn\, the warp and weft of a weaving\, the blocks of a quilt and the bond of indigo dye to fabric\, textiles hold boundless knowledge\, transmitted over generations. The artists in this group exhibition play with ideas and materials to explore how textiles connect to the body\, sculptural forms and technologies both old and new. \nLight refreshments will be served. Opening remarks will take place at 7pm. This event is wheelchair accessible. \nABOUT THE EXHIBITION\nJonathan Alfaro\nKatherine Boyer\nRoxanne Charles\nEmily Hermant\nDamla Tamer\nValérie d. Walker \nMay 13 – July 23\, 2023 \nThe exhibited artists draw on complex histories and rich cultural and personal practices connected to textiles to build sculptural works that move away from the gallery wall. Their techniques span weaving\, dyeing\, knotting and casting\, among other processes. The artworks\, created from a variety of organic and manufactured materials—from animal fibres and plant material to wire\, rubber silicone and plastic—fill the gallery from floor to ceiling. The works’ relation to the body\, three-dimensional space and evolving technologies stitch together the varied artworks presented in Transmissions.\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Raven Spirit Dance: Confluence - Evergreen Cultural Centre
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE SHOW\nConfluence is a dance that weaves our perspectives\, our histories and our bodies to create somatic tapestry that speaks to the resilience of Indigenous women. We embody the space between land and sky through play\, prayer\, grief and gratitude and are the living testament to the legacy that has been offered to us. Aligning our lives with the direction of the water in a river or geese in migration\, we acknowledge we are always in process\, shaping and carving through landscapes\, creating rhythms and discovering our stories.  Produced by: Raven Spirit Dance \nABOUT RAVEN SPIRIT DANCE\nRaven Spirit Dance creates and produces contemporary dance that is rooted in Indigenous worldviews and honours the communities and artists we work with. We share stories through Indigenous perspectives and practices and create opportunities for others to do the same.\nThe artistic vision of Raven Spirit Dance Society is to share stories from an Indigenous worldview. Our medium is contemporary dance; and\, we incorporate other expressions such as traditional dance\, theatre\, puppetry and multi-media to tell these stories.
